FedExCup Update: McIlroy bolsters lead with third win of season at Masters
The PGA TOUR Season’s finale event returns to East Lake Golf Club from August 20-24
ATLANTA – With his victory at the Masters Tournament to complete the career Grand Slam and earn his third title of the 2025 season, Rory McIlroy earned 750 FedExCup points to increase his lead in the FedExCup standings to 1,125 over Sepp Straka, who sits second in the standings. The three-time FedExCup Champion (2016, 2019, 2022) will make his 12th trip to the TOUR Championship, Aug. 20-24, as he seeks to become the first-ever four-time FedExCup Champion.
The TOUR Championship is the culmination of the PGA TOUR season and the FedExCup Playoffs where the TOUR’s top 30 global starts compete for the FedExCup and a $25 million bonus.
The Northern Irishman opened his 2025 season with a victory at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which marked his third time winning in his season debut on TOUR (2021 THE CJ CUP, 2022 THE CJ CUP). In his fourth start, McIlroy returned to the winner’s circle at THE PLAYERS Championship where he defeated J.J. Spaun in a Monday playoff for his second title at TPC Sawgrass (2019). Following a T5 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, the 35-year-old earned his 29th career TOUR victory and fifth major championship title at August National Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy’s incredible Masters victory gives him 29 TOUR wins
McIlroy became the sixth player to complete the career Grand Slam joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, and became the third player to win THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters Tournament in the same year (Tiger Woods, 2001; Scottie Scheffler, 2024). His playoff victory against 2018 FedExCup Champion Justin Rose came in his 17th career appearance
At the TOUR Championship, McIlroy is coming off a T9 finish in 2024 after earning two victories during the 2024 season (Zurich Classic of New Orleans with playing partner Shane Lowry, Truist Championship). In 11 previous starts at East Lake Golf Club, McIlroy earned the FedExCup title three times (2016, 2019, 2022). With his 2022 victory, McIlroy became the first player to win the FedExCup title three times, and the only other player with multiple FedExCup titles is Tiger Woods (2007, 2009).
