Driving the Green: TOUR Championship Celebrates Sustainability Streak

Earth Day announcement marks back-to-back global honors recognizing the tournament’s commitment to eco-excellence.

ATLANTA – For the second consecutive year, the 2024 edition of the TOUR Championship has earned GEO Certified® Tournament honors, a global recognition for environmental and social responsibility in golf. The certification reflects meaningful progress across operations, fan engagements and long-term community impact.

The 2024 event saw significant sustainability achievements, including:

“Sustainability is not just a one-week initiative—it’s part of how we operate year-round,” said Neera Shetty, PGA TOUR Chief Legal Officer & Executive Vice President, Social Responsibility. “The TOUR Championship’s continued commitment to innovation and impact reflects the PGA TOUR’s broader goal to leave a lasting positive legacy in the communities where we play.”

Sustainable practices were incorporated into numerous facets of the event, with the tournament operating entirely on renewable energy, utilizing primarily electric golf carts, eliminating single-use items where possible and uplifting local businesses through its small vendor spotlight program. To reduce overall waste, surplus food and materials were collected and donated to community organizations following the event. Fans were invited to engage in these efforts through features like solar-powered phone charging stations and free water refill stations, making sustainable choices both easy and accessible. The event also earned certification through Circular Solutions Advisors, ensuring that recycling streams were properly sorted and processed, with materials ultimately making their way back into bottles and cans—advancing a true circular economy.

These sustainable efforts are made possible due to the Atlanta community and the TOUR Championship’s three Proud Partners, Accenture, Coca-Cola and Southern Company.
